Tried something new - SUBU
For this weekend we had a mission - to eat at place we never tried before and preferably go to another area then we usually do. Therefore we ended up at SUBU; a newly opened restaurant in the financial district in west Beijing. The owner is the same as LAN (that I've written about before, you know the place designed by Philippe Starck). SUBU is designed by the Danish designer Johannes Torpe. I won't review the place but still I need to comment. It's situated in a shopping mall, on the top floor out in the open space so from the main area you see the whole mall from the restaurant. This made the place feel like an airport restaurant, not the best grade in our book. There are as well, as usual in China, VIP rooms at the sides. They look like cocoons or similar, pretty cool. (To eat there you have to order for minimum 2000RMB...) The food was tasty but we think that here in China you'll get as tasty food at a cheaper place, it's noting special with the expensive Chinese food (if you don't like abalone or shark fin soup that's the most exclusive food usually).
Upon this the place was more or less empty which added on to the "we are very lonely in a big shopping mall" feeling.
Far out in the end of the shopping mall is the restaurant.
The VIP coccons.
